Care Network International's latest community health outreach initiative has successfully reached over 2,000 households across Agbor, Ute Okpu, and surrounding areas of Delta State — bringing free medical screenings, vaccinations, and health education to families who have rarely, if ever, accessed formal healthcare services.
The campaign, which ran over six weeks, deployed teams of trained community health workers and volunteer medical professionals into areas underserved by the formal health system. In addition to individual consultations, the outreach included group sessions on maternal health, child nutrition, and disease prevention.
Community health workers from within the local area were central to the campaign's success. Their existing relationships with residents meant families were far more likely to engage openly, share health concerns, and follow through on referrals to clinics. This community-embedded approach is core to how Care Network International operates.
"We came to them — in their homes, in their compounds, at their wells. That is the only way to truly reach the most vulnerable."
Screenings revealed a significant burden of previously undiagnosed conditions. High blood pressure was the most commonly identified concern, followed by signs of malnutrition in children and untreated malaria. A number of pregnant women were referred for antenatal care for the first time.
The data gathered during this campaign will feed directly into our programme planning for the rest of 2025. We will be prioritising follow-up care pathways for the individuals referred during the outreach, and using the nutrition findings to strengthen our Under-Five VIPs programme. A full report will be published in our next quarterly update.
We are deeply grateful to all the volunteers, community leaders, local health officials, and donors who made this campaign possible. Every pound donated to Care Network International goes directly to efforts like this one.
